Numerus

Throughout my life I have always been influenced by music and sound, surrounded by family and friends who have been involved in the music industry. Numerus is a project based around a deep study of the relationship between sound and typeface formation. I wanted to create a sound reactive program in which when you made a sound, a custom typeface design would react to the sounds, creating movement and evolution.

DESIGN PROCESS

In my process I wanted to focus on translating sounds into design, especially lettering. Firstly I experimented with how many different ways I could illustrate sound waves, which then developed into how I would imagine typography being expressed as sounds.

This is a sketch of a design proposal for typography based on sound waves, experimenting with how many bars I should use to make it both legible and visually appealing.

Glyphs: A software for creating typography. I designed the variable typeface in here to then be exported for external use.
